About

Room to Read, the global non-profit organization focused on literacy and gender equality in education, was founded in 2000. It was co-founded by John Wood, Erin Ganju, and Dinesh Shrestha after Wood's visit to a school in Nepal, where he observed a severe lack of educational resources. This experience inspired him to leave his position at Microsoft and establish the organization . In India, Room to Read began its operations in 2003 and has since expanded its programs across several states, including Karnataka, Delhi NCR, Maharashtra, and Telangana. The organization has made significant strides in improving literacy and gender equality in education for children in low-income communities .
